Transport to Madrid

Madrid is the capital of Spain and therefore very well connected either by air or train.

Traveling by Plane

There are daily flights from most European and overseas countries to Madrid. Madrid's airport, located in the northeast of the city, is called Aeropuerto Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas. The complete airport information can be found at the airport web page.

Traveling by Train

Madrid is connected to many Spanish cities through a high-speed train service called Alta Velocidad Española (AVE), operated by Renfe, the Spanish national railway company, at speeds of up to 310 km/h. The list of connected cities includes: Alicante, Barcelona, Cordoba, Huesca, Malaga, Seville, Valladolid, Valencia. The complete list can be found at the corresponding Renfe web page. Madrid Puerta de Atocha is the primary rail-way station providing this service in Madrid.


Transport to Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is very well connected by public transportation. It takes no more than 20 minutes to arrive from downtown Madrid. There are trains and buses providing this service. The commuter rail system of Madrid is called Cercanías. A map of the different lines can be found here.

By Train

  • From Madrid (either Puerta de Atocha, Sol, Nuevos Ministerios or Chamartín train stations): take Cercanías line C4 (to Colmenar Viejo or to Alcobendas-S. Sebastián de los Reyes) and get off at station Cantoblanco Universidad. The timetables can be checked on the Renfe web page. Normally, there is a train every 10 minutes. A trip from Sol station will last 20 minutes. Tickets can be bought at any train station. A single ticket costs 1.70 euros. There are reduced fares if you buy a 10-tickets card. It is a 5 minutes walk from Cantoblanco Cercanías station to Escuela Politécnica Superior.


  • From the airport: take Ceranías line C1 and get off at Chamartín station. Next, take Cercanías line C4 (to Colmenar Viejo or to Alcobendas-S. Sebastián de los Reyes) and get off at Cantoblanco Universidad. It is a 5 minutes walk from Cantoblanco Cercanías station to Escuela Politécnica Superior.

By Bus

  • From Madrid: Line 714 departs from Plaza de Castilla, Madrid, and ends at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The buses stop near Escuela Politécnica Superior.

    • From Plaza de Castilla to Universidad Autónoma de Madrid: Time Tables.
    • From Universidad Autónoma de Madrid to Plaza de Castilla: Time Tables.

  • Note that in August the frequency of the buses is significantly reduced.

  • From the airport: Lines 827 and 828 (Aeropuerto T4 - Alcobendas - Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). The buses stop at the center of the campus, near the Rectorado building.
